How Project Began

The project idea was first conceived due to a small group of people led By Jodie Harries having a discussion on the new Drayton Crier Facebook page I had only created a week or so before hand. Around five 5 or six other users of the page join in, and the enthusiasm grew, with 52 entries in just 6 hours! During this conversation it soon became apparent that a great deal of locals from Little Drayton had fond memories of the old school building. The following Day John Hedge and Mike Smith called at Barbers and asked to visit the building. We fed our findings back to the group that had formed form the facebook page.  More discussions took place and after speaking with Janine and Adam Knight we decided a public meeting was called for, which was called on August 1st 2011 at the crown public house, the idea being to get some ideas and find out if opening the centre was feasible. The meeting was attended by Roger Hughes and Roy Allcroft (councillors) and 14 residents from Little Drayton. Since then there have been two further meeting with a great deal of background work going on. The discussion of August 1st has now formed a committee and the amount of support and help we are now being offered has been incredible. The number of people wanting to use such facilities has also totally amazed us. We are all now working very hard to ensure that the centre is opened again, and that Market Drayton has a centre which will fulfil activities not supported by the other existing community centres. We do not want to poach groups from the existing centres; the plan is to provide for the many groups that have nowhere to go.
